Perhaps Not Their Greatest Crime, But Still ...

They've done worse things, but wouldja look at the atrocious grammar these seditionists use? Incorrectly rendered ellipses; arbitrary and capricious capitalization, occasionally wandering into deification; hyperventilated overuse of exclamation points; run-on sentences; commas on the lam; nouns masquerading as adjectives ---- it's a mess! How can you take these goofballs seriously?

Some samples from messages acquired by the House Select Committee on the attempted coup, from the New York Times:

  • “Our President will need us. ALL OF US…!!! On January 6th."

  • "We the People owe him that debt. He Sacrificed for us and we must pay that debt."

  • “Trump said It’s gonna be wild!!!!!!! It’s gonna be wild!!!!!!! He wants us to make it WILD that’s what he’s saying. He called us all to the Capitol and wants us to make it wild!!! Sir Yes Sir!!! Gentlemen we are heading to DC.

  • “tens of thousands of patriot Americans"

  • “We will not be wearing our traditional Black and Yellow.”

In fairness, Elmer Rhodes, the Oath Keeper founder and a Yale Law School graduate, and Florida Proud Boy Enrique Tarrio both grasp the use of the hyphen to create a compound modifier:

  • “mission-critical gear” and “defense of our God-given liberty” (Rhodes)

  • “hand-selected members” (Tarrio)

But as for the rest of it? Yeesh. What were they doing in English class? As Frank Reynolds said, "Let's get it nailed down. Let's get it right."
